Chapter Six

TOM CLOSED his eyes and leaned back into Matt. The discussion had taken a lot out of him, but Matt’s reaction and the whole approach they had agreed on gave him hope. The mood was somewhat gone now, though, and Tom wasn’t sure how to get it back. His eyes opened involuntarily with the realization he did want to get it back. Despite everything, he wanted to know what it was like to have sex when both partners were willing. Hell, when he was willing. Maybe he wasn’t ready to go all the way, but he needed to try.

“Baby? Are you okay?” Matt’s voice traveled straight from the man’s chest into Tom’s body, the vibrations making him realize how close they were.

“Yeah, I think I am.” Tom turned around, suddenly needing to see his soon-to-be-lover. “I’ve just realized I actually want this with you.”

“You didn’t, before?” Matt frowned.

“No. No, that’s not true, I did.” How to explain this? “I wanted it because I had a physical reaction, which I haven’t had in a while, and because I knew you were ready for the next step.”

“And now it’s different?” Matt tilted his head.

“Yeah, now I want to see what it’s like when I don’t have to be passive all the time. When I can explore and be a full partner.” Tom could feel the heat rise in his cheeks and dropped his gaze. Matt must think him such a weakling.

Matt’s hand was under his chin in seconds and gently pulling it upward.

“I’m glad you told me.” Matt smiled and pressed their lips together, pulling back a little so he could whisper. “I can’t wait for what you’re going to do to me.”

“Can we kiss some more?” Tom adored Matt’s kisses.

“We can kiss all you want, anytime.” Matt grinned and shifted in the chair. “But I think we’d be more comfortable lying down for this.”

“Okay.” That he could easily do.

Tom rose, sliding his hand into Matt’s, tugging experimentally as he moved toward the bed. Matt followed willingly, and they sat on the edge, thigh to thigh. Still holding on to Matt’s hand, Tom lifted his free arm so he could touch Matt’s face. It was masculine and exuded strength, with his square jaw and the heavy beard growth. Tom let his fingertips wander across the stubbled skin, then stroked the jawline in slow, tender movements.

Matt smiled, making the skin around his eyes crinkle and deepening the laugh lines there. They were one of his most attractive features to Tom. A man with laugh wrinkles had a sense of humor, he’d thought when he first met him. It looked like this was true. The blue of Matt’s eyes deepened as Tom continued his fingertip exploration of Matt’s face: touching the forehead, running his fingers through the short hair, and cupping the back of his head.

Tom moved forward, kissing Matt’s temple, wanting to do more, but the angle was all wrong. Only hesitating a few seconds, Tom half rose to swing one leg across Matt’s thighs so he straddled him.
